[UbuntuGnome] USB device not being found by scanner (Ubuntu 20.04)

lsub is showing my document scanner to be on a different bus and device from that which my scanner software uses to access the scanner. As a result the scanner is not activated by either xsane or gsan2pdf.

LSUSB shows:
Bus 002 Device 005: ID 04f9:03d3 Brother Industries, Ltd MFC-J5330DW

GScan2pdf shows:
Error opening device: Brother 4: bus 14:dev 1

How do I correct the mismatch between the actual address of the scanner as shown by lsusb, and the apparently wrong address that gscan2pdf is using to try to access the scanner? Xsane is also failing to scan for the same reason.
