[ubuntu] [Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS] Two Nagging Problems
(1) My sound output device randomly switches. Sometimes after opening a certain program or sometimes on a restart/startup. I can change it back and all is well. But is there a way to save my change so I don’t have to keep changing it back? Referring to Settings > Sound > Output > Output Device, I want “HDMI/DisplayPort 4 – GF114 HDMI Audio Controller” to be the permanent default but it keeps switching back to “Digital Output (S/PDIF) – Built-in Audio” without me consciously doing so. Whats strange is that this didn’t happen until just this past month or so and did not happen at all before that.
(2) When I pause and restart a mp4 video playing in VLC the audio cuts in and out for 15-30 seconds or so before it seems to play in earnest. While this is happening the video keeps playing. I have to rewind a bit so that I can see the video with the audio that I missed. After this initial disjunction things play fine until I pause again. This happens every-single-time. My solution has been to switch to the Ubuntu’s default “Videos” player because it does not happen in there but I really like VLC.
