Troubleshooting Steam network connection error?

Hello,

I am unable to use Steam on Linux. I tried Ubuntu 20.04 and 20.04.1, Pop!_OS 20.04, Linux Mint 20 Cinnamon, Solus 4.1 Budgie and even SteamOS. I’ve tried to get help from the Steam community to no avail.

It used to work for me on Ubuntu 20.04 via flatpak only but that stopped working months ago. It worked for a few days on Linux Mint recently and suddenly stopped working.

Installation methods tried: apt, deb package, flatpak, Ubuntu Software.

Steam attempts to log in or connect for a few seconds and then shows the error message “Could not connect to Steam network.”

Can someone please help me troubleshoot the issue?

Other things I have tried:

  • Run steam with the “-tcp” parameter.
  • Remove the AMD graphics card in my system and only keep the Nvidia one.
